A girlfag (or "female gay man" or "gay-male identified woman") is a person born in a woman's body who feels a strong attraction towards gay or bisexual men. She may partly or wholly feel like a "gay man trapped in a woman's body".[1] Girlfags may be attracted to other types of people as well. Their self-identification as gay, straight or bisexual may vary, although most of them consider themselves to be bisexual.[2]

The male equivalent, a lesbian identified man, is called guydyke. This concept became known when during Season 1 of the american and canadian co-production television drama series The L-Word a lesbian-identified man called "Lisa" had a short relationship with a lesbian woman.

Some - but not all - girlfags and guydykes identify as genderqueer.[3] or androgyne.

The term fag hag describes a totally different phenomenon, where straight women seek out "safe", non-sexual relationships with gay men. A girlfag on the other hand is specifically interested in pursuing romantic/sexual relationships with gay or bisexual men.

The concept of and the discussion about girlfags and guydykes came up in the USA during the 1990s. So far the topic wasn't discussed often within the gender studies. During the last few years it became more popular in german-speaking countries.
